How can you manage your risk?

Risk management means being aware of the potential losses associated with investing.

For example, a company may go bankrupt and cause its stock price to plummet.

Or, a country's economy could collapse, causing the value of its currency to fall.

You run the risk of losing your entire portfolio if stocks are purchased.

Therefore, it is important to remember that stocks carry greater risks than bonds.

Buy both bonds and stocks to lower your risk.

You increase the likelihood of making money out of both assets.

Spreading your investments across multiple asset classes can help reduce risk.

Each class is different and has its own risks and rewards.

For instance, stocks are considered to be risky, but bonds are considered safe.

If you are interested building wealth through stocks, investing in growth corporations might be a good idea.

You might consider investing in income-producing securities such as bonds if you want to save for retirement.

What if I lose my investment?

You can lose everything. There is no 100% guarantee of success. There are ways to lower the risk of losing.

One way is diversifying your portfolio. Diversification spreads risk between different assets.

Another way is to use stop losses. Stop Losses let you sell shares before they decline. This will reduce your market exposure.

Margin trading is another option. Margin trading allows for you to borrow funds from banks or brokers to buy more stock. This increases your chance of making profits.

Which fund is best for beginners?

It is important to do what you are most comfortable with when you invest. FXCM offers an online broker which can help you trade forex. They offer free training and support, which is essential if you want to learn how to trade successfully.

If you feel unsure about using an online broker, it is worth looking for a local location where you can speak with a trader. This way, you can ask questions directly, and they can help you understand all aspects of trading better.

Next, you need to choose a platform where you can trade. CFD and Forex platforms are often difficult choices for traders. Although both trading types involve speculation, it is true that they are both forms of trading. Forex is more profitable than CFDs, however, because it involves currency exchange. CFDs track stock price movements but do not actually exchange currencies.

It is therefore easier to predict future trends with Forex than with CFDs.

Forex is volatile and can prove risky. For this reason, traders often prefer to stick with CFDs.

We recommend that Forex be your first choice, but you should get familiar with CFDs once you have.

How To

How to invest into commodities

Investing in commodities involves buying physical assets like oil fields, mines, plantations, etc., and then selling them later at higher prices. This process is called commodity trading.

Commodity investing is based on the theory that the price of a certain asset increases when demand for that asset increases. When demand for a product decreases, the price usually falls.

If you believe the price will increase, then you want to purchase it. And you want to sell something when you think the market will decrease.

There are three major categories of commodities investor: speculators; hedgers; and arbitrageurs.

A speculator will buy a commodity if he believes the price will rise. He doesn't care what happens if the value falls. One example is someone who owns bullion gold. Or someone who invests in oil futures contracts.

An investor who buys commodities because he believes they will fall in price is a "hedger." Hedging can help you protect against unanticipated changes in your investment's price. If you own shares in a company that makes widgets, but the price of widgets drops, you might want to hedge your position by shorting (selling) some of those shares. By borrowing shares from other people, you can replace them by yours and hope the price falls enough to make up the difference. When the stock is already falling, shorting shares works well.

The third type, or arbitrager, is an investor. Arbitragers trade one thing in order to obtain another. For example, if you want to purchase coffee beans you have two options: either you can buy directly from farmers or you can buy coffee futures. Futures allow you the flexibility to sell your coffee beans at a set price. You have no obligation actually to use the coffee beans, but you do have the right to decide whether you want to keep them or sell them later.

The idea behind all this is that you can buy things now without paying more than you would later. If you know that you'll need to buy something in future, it's better not to wait.

But there are risks involved in any type of investing. Unexpectedly falling commodity prices is one risk. The second risk is that your investment's value could drop over time. You can reduce these risks by diversifying your portfolio to include many different types of investments.

Another factor to consider is taxes. When you are planning to sell your investments you should calculate how much tax will be owed on the profits.

Capital gains taxes are required if you plan to keep your investments for more than one year. Capital gains taxes only apply to profits after an investment has been held for over 12 months.

You may get ordinary income if you don't plan to hold on to your investments for the long-term. Ordinary income taxes apply to earnings you earn each year.

Commodities can be risky investments. You may lose money the first few times you make an investment. However, you can still make money when your portfolio grows.
